In a culture where birth is increasingly medicalized and institutionalized, we need to go back to its roots. Birth is a competent physiologic function built into a woman's body. There is increasing anxiety regarding birth because it is viewed as a scary process full of tubes and wires and monitors and alarms. That is not so. The article portrays a woman going through labor and birth who innately knew what to do with her body. It goes on to explain that birth is a physiologic function built into a woman's body. We do not control it.
